Time management tips for mums

Being a mom can be overwhelming and challenging oftentimes. Especially if you find yourself doing all the work alone with no one to help. But there is always a solution to every problem. And having a put-together life with children isn’t impossible. You just need some time management skills to help you get through these hard days of being a mom.

As a mom myself, I did suffer a lot with managing time and sometimes I just give up and I feel bad about myself. But I know that we can all have these days and it doesn’t have to be perfect every day. That’s why I’ve tried my best to shift some things and make the most out of my time. Here are some tips that I believe have helped me manage my time more efficiently

Plan your week ahead

Planning your week in advance will help you have a general look at how you want your week to go. It doesn’t have to be precise. You just need to plan your children’s activities, house chores, meals, errands, meal times, and laundry….

Shop online whenever possible

Going to the shop to buy groceries or do shopping can take up so much time and energy, but thankfully, we live in a time where shopping online is easy and convenient. Switch to online shopping and you’ll save yourself so much time and money.

Shop once a week

If you’re a person who likes to go and shop rather than doing the online service, then I suggest you shop once a week to avoid going back and forth to the shop for random stuff. Write down everything you need and go and grab them all at once. This will save you so much money and time.

Plan your meals

We often spend so much time thinking about what to cook next. To avoid that during the week, simply plan your meals for the week ahead. This will not only save you time but it will also save you money when you shop for your groceries. Because then you won’t be buying foods you won’t need.

Plan your chores

House chores can feel endless right? Well, if you dedicate a set amount of time to every chore, they won’t feel as overwhelming.

Here’s my planning for chores just to give you an idea.

Monday deep clean the bathrooms

Tuesday deep clean the house

Wednesday deep clean the kitchen

Thursday laundry day

Friday decluttering the wardrobes and putting laundry away

Saturday do groceries

Sunday chilling all-day

I dedicate 2 hours a day max for every task to help me control my time.

This is my schedule but I just want to mention that I don’t always stick to it, as things can happen. But roughly, having a schedule helps a lot with clearing my mind and prioritizing tasks better.

Power hour

Set the timer for one hour and challenge yourself to go through the whole house, pick it up, dust, clean the floors..etc in just one hour. It works every time and it saves a lot of time because when you set the timer, you’ll be working as fast as you can.

Make a to-do list

Quickly outline all the things you want to achieve during the day. This will give you a clear vision of how your day is going to be like. You’ll feel more satisfied and confident once you do all the work that needs to be done.

Review your day

Before you go to sleep each night, review your day. Tick everything that you have achieved during the day from your to-do list. This will give you a better idea of how many things you can actually do and if you can do more or less next time.

Prioritize tasks

Do you often find yourself all over the place and end up doing nothing, just because there are way too many things to do? Make a list of goals that you want to achieve starting with the most important thing all the way down to the least important. This will help get the work done and no longer be confused.

Stop procrastinating

If you need to do something now then the best time to do it is NOW! Stop telling yourself “I’ll do it tomorrow” because guess what? Tomorrow will come and you’ll not do it. Discipline is key.

In the end, I just want to tell you that, as a mother, you’re already doing enough work and please don’t feel like you’re lacking. Every household functions differently and everything that’s written in this post here is my own opinion and things that have worked for me personally.
